Suppose you are going to participate in a class debate on decriminalizing prostitution. What arguments would you present in favor of decriminalization? What arguments would you present against decriminalization?

    For:
generates revenue for the state (tax money); it removes or minimizes the criminal element involved; it makes it safer and cleaner for the practitioners and customers if *********** are regulated & checked (health).

    Against:
it goes against social mores; it is misogynistic and exploits women

efficiency of enforcement, a lot of wasted money.

    consenting adults.

    against:
a tool of oppression against women.

As George Carlin put it “Selling is Legal. Fu*kng is legal. So why isn’t selling fu*cking legal?”

    FOR DECRIMINALIZING:

If we were to decriminalize prostitution, we could have a poonany tax. We could also issue licenses to regulate who is and who is not vending themselves, and require regular testing for license validation on a weekly or monthly basis. It would boost the economy because of the greater exchange of funds, it would help to free up space in jails for violent offenders, and it could potentially reduce the crime rates for sexual offenses.

    AGAINST DECRIMINALIZING:

The brothels would lower property value in neighborhoods. Streets would be riddled with *********** who were scantily dressed, in view of children. Youth may be driven to prostitution with false identification to support themselves or to pull themselves from an abusive home. It would perpetuate the denigration of society. It’s immoral to be unfaithful to your spouse or significant other, and with prostitution legalized and advertised, the temptation to be unfaithful would be greater. Even if we did test for STD’s and issue licensure there is a risk of transmitting illnesses before the illnesses are detected, which would increase public health funding and increase the likliehood of an epidemic.

I love debating! I was on the debate team in high school and i loved it. It was so fun too me. I think the crime in this country just keeps getting worse and worse and something needs to be done about it.
