Can you even fathom just how much 790 billion dollars is? This is the number that is being thrown around by our politicians in Washington that our new president thinks will save our economy. I am of course talking about the so called economic stimulus package.
Now let’s just take a quick look back at some of the other free money that our elected officials have passed out here recently. First we had the banking bailout (wasn’t that originally supposed to be a loan to the banking industry?). That one was 700 billion dollars so that banking executives could have their golden parachutes and so banks could keep their private jets. Then there was the auto makers’ bailout (also was supposedly going to be a loan) of 25 billion dollars. Did we solve unemployment by throwing cash at an industry who is failing because it is reluctant to keep up with the times?
Now if we add up just these three little items, how much are we spending? That’s 1.515 trillion dollars! So if we already have more than a 10 trillion dollar national debt, where is all of this money coming from? It is coming from you if you are a taxpayer! And this should warrant more debate!

Boy, did you hit my hot button on this one! It seems like I am now in debt for $34000 because the rest of america doesn’t know how to live within their means. My first thought is to get rid of all the stupid politians and their staffs. That would save about a trillion dollars a year alone.
But look at the bright side, you are going to get an extra $12-13 a week to spend. Surely you can recognize how that vast amount of money is going to save our economy. Heck, you might even be able to afford the toll on that “bridge to nowhere”.
I really don’t understand bailouts. Don’t they undermine what free enterprise stands for? If a company can’t make it financially, doesn’t that mean that they are doing something wrong? How is throwing money at the company going to help with the underlying problem? Won’t they just be back in the same situation again in a few years?
The federal spending in this country is terrible. They spend so much money on so many unessecary things. Something needs to be done about the reckless federal spending in our country today.
From what I’ve heard lately this is just the start, a mere drop in the bucket to what will be thrown at our national problem. And as long as we have the same politians filling the same seats in the same congress it will only continue. I thought this was the administration of change…
It has been said that if you took all income made above $75,000 from each person that makes more than $75,000, you still cannot pay for the Obama spending plans. I see this as a type of Voodoo fix that will come back to haunt us for many years.
So, we are in an economic crisis, and the best we can do to solve it is to spend more money? Where is it coming from? Out of our pockets. The government will spend more money to try and make money which will cost us more money and then there will be less money to spend to try and make money.
Boy, our ancestors would be horrified by the sheer size of the government these days. To think of the government pushing around so much money . . . it’s a scary thought. I hope they know what they’re doing.
